The life of Maestro Faccincani
Today Athos Faccincani is defined as the Maestro of light and colour, however, if you look at the artist's early works, you recognize an expressionist style, characterized by the use of dark tones. How is such a great change possible, then? What path did Athos take in his evolution?
The early years of his life
Athos Faccincani was born in the winter of 1951, on January 29, in Peschiera del Garda, Italy. Already as a child, painting was a strong expressive element of his being. However, he had to dedicate himself to it secretly from his mother who was opposed to everything that could be considered artistic.

As he grows up, his deep fascination of art pushes him to follow his passion in a more concrete way. A dedication that leads him, as a teenager, to become an apprentice in various ateliers of important painters such as Guidi, Seibezzi and Novati. Through these experiences, he not only learns the technique and the art of painting, but also the courage to follow his talent and believe in himself: the conviction that painting will be a fundamental aspect of his life grows stronger in him. After finishing school, against his mother's wishes, Athos dedicates himself completely to his deepest impulse: painting. In this he is supported by his father who encourages him to follow his passion.
Expressionist period
His first creative period is mainly oriented towards the representation, in an expressionist style, of human torment, characterized by figures bent under the weight of a painful existence. In order to understand even more deeply the feelings of man, Athos goes to places of suffering such as prisons and psychiatric hospitals. Thanks to this experience, the artist manages with empathy and sensitivity, to bring the intensity of anguish, the depth of pain, onto the canvas.

The young artist began to exhibit and sell his paintings and, in a short period of time, thanks to the uniqueness of his approach, he was commissioned to take part in increasingly important exhibitions. The peak of his pictorial growth, in this first period of his career, coincided with the exhibition Sulla Resistenza. The event was attended by the then President of the Republic of Italy Sandro Pertini who was visibly impressed and moved by the Maestro's works and congratulated him for having represented the war without political alignments and, considering his exceptional sensitivity and human ability, named him "Cavaliere della Repubblica".

Change of perspective
This is a great recognition for the artist, however the man Athos, internally, is facing a deep crisis. The death of his father first and the years dedicated to understanding suffering later, have tested him deeply inside. This period of difficulty manifests itself in a creative stalemate and for almost a year the canvases remain blank.

Athos Faccincani with his son Mattia
Athos searches within himself for answers of himself, he feels the need to clarify in order to understand the meaning of what is happening to him. With his wife Rita and his little son Mattia, he decides to take a trip to southern Italy. Here, as the months pass, something begins to change: the suffering he feels slowly transforms into something new, something that surprises him. He understands that having concentrated totally on pain has distanced him from the intrinsic beauty of life and from his own inner light.

The Birth of the Maestro of Light
Inspired by the positive energy that is released in the relationship with his son and by the breathtaking landscapes, he naturally decides to express this change of perception in his art: it is at this moment that the Maestro of light and colour is born. Athos begins to use only bright and intense colors in his palette, giving up dark ones such as black and gray. In fact, even today, a careful eye can notice that the shadows and the darkest shades of his paintings are blue or dark green.

Athos Faccincani: RACCONTI DI LUCE
Through a style that has now become impressionist, the artist expresses his new perspective on life. The lush nature and the places of his journey of change become the subjects of his works; he portrays them in the light of a pure gaze, of an innocent soul, not yet contaminated and conditioned by the world, a vision where the beauty of existence manifests itself in all its intensity and harmony, where the objective becomes subjective, where reality is also a dream. Through light and bright colours he expresses a human's need to reconnect with life, to honour creation. His art is a hymn to the joy of being, a resolute invitation to rediscover the sun within oneself.
